I have adopted two greyhounds this year from Sheffield Retired Greyhounds.
Blake and Angel, both beautiful, amazing dogs that have changed my life and myself beyond belief.
From the moment they wake up they make me smile with their zest for life each day.
Their characters are comical, funny, downright crazy! But so very affectionate gentle and loving, they melt my heart every day too- yeah, they’ve turned this big hairy bloke into a big softy!!
I can honestly say I will always have greyhounds from now on.
Sheffield Retired Greyhounds are wonderful people, always there for you, to help with advice, answer questions if you are unsure or to go and have a chat and meet other greyhound owners.
The people that run it have become good friends that I am glad I have come to know.
It’s a place very dear to my heart- (and Blake and Angel’s!)

Maggie joined our family some weeks ago and we wouldn’t be without her.
She has her foibles which only endear her to us even more.
The whole process of rehoming her was a happy experience and the advice we were given was great.
Sheffield Retired Greyhounds are amazing.

I have been a volunteer at Sheffield Retired Greyhounds since 2010. Most Saturdays & some Tuesday evenings you will find me & my hound, Nick, at Owlerton Stadium trying to persuade the punters to part with 50p in exchange for a tip sheet for that night’s races.
As well as trying to part them from their money we also spread the Greyhound Gospel chatting to people about the work the charity does & about what wonderful pets ex racers make.
The hounds on duty get lots of fuss & some of the regulars bring them treats. Nick spots the regulars as they are coming across the car park & is on his feet, tail wagging ready to greet them as they come through the turnstile.
I really enjoy doing Beat the Book. It’s a great way of raising funds for the charity & educating people about greyhounds – it’s amazing how many people think they need loads of exercise!

I cannot thank the people at Sheffield Retired Greyhounds enough for helping us through the process of homing our beautiful Shadow. We visited the kennels 3 times in 2 weeks and brought Shadow home. We were able to spend lots of time with him and also take him for walks. We were offered lots of helpful advice and the team helped us find the dog most suitable for us.
We are so happy and content and would definitely go to the Sheffield Retired Greyhounds again, whether this be for a nice walk with Shadow’s old pals, or maybe even adopt another one!
Thanks,
Ellie & Jacob
We adopted a greyhound from SRG back in November 2018. From that time until we lost him in February 2023 the help and advice, they gave us was 2nd to none. They were always there when needed. The work they do just can’t say enough.
Even though we no longer have Momo we still go up to visit them just to give something back.

I’m going back a bit, but I had a greyhound shaped hole in my house after losing two within three months and leaving our remaining Bob bereft. I contacted Sheffield Retired Greyhounds and arranged a visit to the kennels with Bob. We walked round the kennels, and one picked us out (Denton’s Pride, kennel name Angel) and so we introduced her properly to Bob and they had a little walk round together and they seemed to fit. She certainly helped Bob recover from the loss of his two friends and she went on to have a wonderful life giving us many years of pleasure until the bridge called her home 😢

Sheffield Retired Greyhound rehoming centre is not just a kennels it is a community with wonderful, dedicated staff and volunteers who make you feel so welcome. The team does an amazing job of checking out and describing each dog’s character and personality and are amazing at using these skills to help find your perfect match. I looked at the website so many times before adopting our second hound and now can’t get out of the habit, they are all so gorgeous!!
Even though the place is always busy the team always takes time to answer any questions or concerns and welcome you to keep in touch after you take your new houndy home. The onsite shop is great too, as is the Facebook page where you can keep up with the daily goings on, guaranteed to raise a few smiles and warm your heart!
